How much can a plant grow in 30 days?

Time for an experiment...

Many of us decorate our homes with indoor plants, bringing the outside in to connect to nature. And with a bit of love and care, they can do amazingly well, growing beautifully and injecting some life and colour into our living spaces.

Oftentimes we even look after it one day, and the next a bud is starting to bloom, or the leaves have suddenly grown an inch. And we have no idea how or when it happened.

So as a bit of an expirment, I decided to photograph my orchid for a month, and see how different it looks from day one to day 30.

The orchid was bought earlier in the year, and finished flowering around August. When the final flower fell, I cut the stems just above a new bud in the hope of something happening.

In the space of the month I only watered the plant twice, but heavily as this is something experts advise. I also kept it in a bright room out of direct sunlight, and then hoped for the best.
